Veterans Day Parade 2016

Huntington Gets Chance To Honor Veterans Once More With the 2016 Veterans Parade Veterans Day is a time when we all honor, and say Thank You, to the brave men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the U.S. Military.

As everyone already knows, Huntington ISD has always put on a spectacular Veterans Day event as their way of thanking our Veterans for their service to our great country. Now the whole town can get involved and show that we all know how to treat our veterans. In addition to what the schools have planned, Huntington has been given the opportunity to host the Annual Veterans Day Parade for 2016 for another year!

On Saturday, November 12th, Huntington is going honor our Veterans like never before. Marilyn Davis, the Parade Coordinator, wants this to be the best Veterans Day Parade that can be and is asking for the community’s help making it so.

Entries for the parade are needed. Cars, floats, wagons, clubs, school groups, marching bands, drill teams, cheerleaders, etc. Anyone who wants to show how much they appreciate our Veterans can do so. The deadline for entering is October 30th so you want to hurry. Entry forms may be obtained at City Hall, the Huntington High School Office, or numerous merchants in town. Please include a good telephone number and a person to contact when filling out the form. Mail entries to Marilyn Davis, Parade Coordinator at 1497 Knightwood Road, Huntington, Texas 75949. After turning in your entry form, participants will then be given a number. They must display their entry number on both sides of the vehicle/float/sign to be eligible for judging.

Once the parade is over, everyone will be gathering in Huntington’s Centennial Park for a day long celebration. This will be a great opportunity for vendors and crafters alike to display and sell their crafts, wares and food.

Vendors don’t have to be just from Huntington to attend either. Vendors are needed from EVERYWHERE!!! Decorate your booth red, white and blue. Show your American Pride. Wear patriotic hats; offer discounts to Veterans ID. Just have fun with it!

The cost for the booths will be $25 for a 10x20 Art/Craft booth. Food booths are a little more at $50. Set up times will be between 7-9am and the vehicles must be removed from the area due to the parade line set up. To be fair, booths will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis so be sure to get there early enough for that “perfect” spot. There will be no holding spots.

The parade committee is asking that there be no resale items, garage sale, flea market or junk items. They reserve the right to remove any booth, for any reason they feel necessary. They want nothing that will dishonor or insult our brave men and women.

They also reserve the right to reject any application for vendor space or any item which is deemed inappropriate for family viewing or is unsafe. Their goal is for this event to be a family affair with clean wholesome fun and entertainment.

The deadline to purchase a booth is October 30th. All vendors must provide their own tables and chairs and payment must be paid in full. No refunds will be given after October 30th as this event is going to go on rain or shine.

Entry forms for vendor/food booths can be found Huntington City Hall, the Huntington High School Office, or numerous merchants in town. If you need a form or have any questions, please contact Marilyn Davis at 936/414-1733 or 936/422-5779.

The whole town of Huntington loves it’s Veterans and it is time that we show Angelina County just how much we do. Just because we are a small town does not mean that we can’t do this event BIG. Please get involved. It does not matter if it’s being in the parade; to set up a booth selling food or crafts; performing some sort of entertainment; doing Face Painting; bringing in a bouncy house for the kids; etc. Anything at all will show your support and pride in all our Veterans and let them know just how much we appreciate them.
