Huntington Businesses Support Local Kids

Huntington Businesses Support Local Kids

by Karolyn Klaes

Every year Angelina County puts on a youth fair where students from all the schools in the county present projects for competition in divisions of livestock, arts and crafts, mechanics, economics and agriculture. The event culminates with the Annual Angelina County Youth Fair Auction, where students then sell their projects to local business and supporters.

Understanding that these students are the community’s future, needing to be supported and encouraged, the Huntington Business Owners Association put together a group of businesses and individuals to form the Huntington Business Owners Buyers Pool. It is the goal of this group to help insure that our local students get a fair price for their projects at the Youth Auction.

The Huntington Owners Buyers Pool has been in existence for a few years now and each year the financial participation seen from this community has just kept growing and growing. This has encouraged many more kids to participate in this yearly Fair/Auction.

“All monies donated go towards the purchase of our Huntington kids’ projects or go directly back to those who show!! This is a great way to support our hardworking young people” said Carla Kelley of Jerry’s Tire Shop in Huntington.

Many businesses in this area make up this group. A big thank you for their support goes out to: Ambit Energy; Burrous Dozer; Christine Johnson; Danny Redd; David and Deana Wilde; Deans Meat Service; Down Home Property; Dues Wrecker; Durrett Ready Mix; Earth & Stone; Extreme Collision; Freddie and Joyce Smith; George Kelley; Integra Insurance; Jerry’s Tire Shop; Jamie Hopper; Jimmy Horton; Jody Mitchell; K & G Trailer; Larry and Karon Joiner; Lil Boots; Liza’s Garden; Loggins & Sons; Maddux Building Supply; Melissa Holcombe; My Trash Service; Pam Hooton; Southern Tile; Sound Tech; Terry Pitts; Texas State Bank; Tom Brown A/C; Total Performance; Tyson Driver; Tom Havard; Wankan Pipeline; and White Tractor.

And just like the kids competing, these businesses take this task every seriously. Between fund raisers and collecting donations from the community throughout the year, the Buyer’s Pool is able to spread the funds to help more participants.

If you or your business would like to donate for this worthy cause, please drop a check or cash off to Jerry’s Tire Shop on Highway 69 in Huntington.
